That was painful....

Tue Jul 6, 2010, 11:30 AM

I went to see Airbender with ~Katro-buz. We both knew it was going to be terrible, but figured we should go see because we rewatched the whole series just for the movie.

It was way way worse than my expectations.
The first thing that really started to bug me was the way they pronounced names. Aang was more like Ung, Sokka was more like So-ka, Iroh was... I can't even find out how to type it. Basically they got everyone's names wrong except for Katara and Zuko.
On that note, the actors were terrible. No emotion. It was like they were just reading the script for the first time. The dialog was basically narration.
Also, you think they could actually make Zuko's scar more visible? It was there, but it was hard to see.

For someone who hadn't seen the series, the movie would be confusing like nothing else. They jumped around places and it didn't fit together.

I will agree the effects were cool. Though the motions of the benders were a bit overdone. If they had shown some of the bending while they were doing the motions it would've been a lot better.

They did change some plot points. Not many and I guess overall they were an okay change. Firebenders couldn't make their own fire (but actually that bugged me a bit in the series lol) and the comet was going to come in 3 years instead of less than 1.

Momo and Appa didn't really play any roll. They were just there in the background.

No Kyoshi warriors.

And I know a lot of people were upset about not having Jet but really... think about it. Were they really essential to the story? When you are putting an entire season of a show into a 2hr movie, you gotta leave the minor parts out.

If the actors had been better and they showed more of the in between of they journey to the Northern Water Tribe, I think it may have been an okay movie. But overall... ya it was bad.

Painfully bad.

Anyways, less than 3 weeks till my birthday :D woo!!!

lawl, movies that are trying to summarize whole series are never good. movies based off series should really be something like a side story, sequel or prequel instead because a movie is so short compared to whole seasons of TV shows. its just too hard to do and theyre bound to make tons of fans upset. yeah, im saying this even though the Tales of Vesperia movie was crap but... it would have been annoying if they tried to make it cover the entire game in only 90 minutes.

i tried watching the Avatar series but it was so boring to me and i couldnt get very far into it xP i have stuff against wannabe-anime anyway...

No Kyoshi warriors made me sad.
The effects were great, and i wanted to see the Unagi(sp?) sooo bad. D:
appa looked cool.. but mom was kind of frightening.

My sis and actually went out and bought Book 2 and 3 to recover from the mess that movie was.
Though it didnt bother me, not having jet in it. But wont that make it all the more confusing once they get to ba sing se?
The whole Lake Laogi thing and such.

well I can see how they can get around it at ba sing se.....
but really, I doubt he'll get funding to make the other two books XD

Yeah but I think it'd make it all the more confusing. I vote James Cameron for book two. Seriously. Then Michael Bay for 3. He'd make the best firebender splosions.

I hate it when a great tv series or book or something just turn out to be crap. Like Eragon, OMG, that's a bad movie. All the important parts have been left out, they rush through the whole plot and everything is just wrong. So I know what that feels like and it SUCKS. Guess it's not always the easiest thing, though, turning something from books or a animated tv series, especially not books when all of the readers have different ideas of what it would be like. How the movies comes out will then be individual. And tv series are already excisting. But I know what you're talking about, if the actors aren't that good, crucial things has been left out etc, enjoying it will be hard. I've had the same feeling you have now with Eragon. And a little with Ink Heart, although it wasn't that bad, it was just fine. It's harder with books, then, since you have your own picture of how things and persons will look like, and when they don't..so I hope Gone and Hunger Games won't be disapointing since those books are so great, I recommend them.

happy birthday when the day comes then, I turn 19 in october :)

yeah i went and saw it...it was alright i guess, then again im not a diehart Last Airbender fan :b i gotta agree with mostly everything you said, though I thought Zuko's actor did a really good job portraying the character.

LOL but what was that part where he gets the kid to tell the story |D all for the audience, pretty random still ahah. and his uncle wasn't fat enough. fffff.
